North Korea Opens Borders

North Korea is issuing temporary exit visas. North Koreans are now allowed to visit relatives in China for 30 days.

One Chinese resident from the border city of Tumen asked, 'will they return, or will they run as far as they can?' There are currently around 200,000 North Koreans living illegally in China.

North Korea has a severe food shortage. Community leaders in Tumen suspect that the North Korean Government is issuing the visas to limit the pressure on food supplies.
