Will Mt Fuji Erupt?

Steam was discovered escaping from the east-northeast side of Mt Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan last month. It is the first time steam has been seen on the mountain since 1945. Locals are worried it may erupt.

Many tourists flock to Mt Fuji in October and November. Businesses are worried that tourists may not come if fear spreads.

However, the weather bureau has assured people it is not going to erupt. It said that the steam is not connected to volcanic activity.

Mt Fuji last erupted in 1707, 300 years ago.
