INTERMEDIATE - GRAMMAR

DID IN NEGATIVE QUESTIONS

We often use did in negative questions to express surprise.

Didn't you hear the phone?
(= It was right next to you! I am very surprised!)

Didn't Alice get the job?
(= I am suprised. I was confident she would get it.)
Didn't you try sushi when you were in Japan?
(= I am surprised. I thought all tourists tried sushi in Japan.)

Write negative questions..
Example: I hoped it wouldn't rain. (bring an umbrella)

1. I borrowed Paul's jacket? (you bring one)
2. Sam failed his exams. (study hard)

3. Jason needs new books. (take care of his old ones?)

4. I don't recommend that movie. (enjoy it)
