How do you say it? Well, there are several different ways to say it.

zero (used for temperatures and counting)
nil
(used in scoring for sports)
oh
(used in phone numbers, and years [19-oh-8])
nought -
(used in counting)
love -
(used in tennis)

billion

What does it mean?

A British billion is - a million million. (1,000,000,000,000)
A US billion is -
a thousand million. (1,000,000,000)

These days the US interpretation is most widely used. For example, the world's population is over 6 billion (= 6,000,000,000).

left overs

Paul had 14 hockey balls. Half a dozen were lost at training on Wednesday.

How many are left?
How many remain?
How many are remaining?
What is the remainder?

These questions all have the same meaning. The answer is 8.

prepositions

Over the last 50 years the average temperature has risen ...

... from 20 degrees.
... above 20 degrees.
... to 20 degrees.
... by 20 degrees.

The meanings of these sentences are quite different.
from =
It used to be 20 degrees, but now it is higher.|
above =
We don't know what it used to be, but now it is over 20.
to =
It used to be lower than 20, but now it is 20.
by =
Now it is 20 degrees higher/more than it used to be.
