start by looking at will. It
is used for spontaneous decisions to do something. It has
several common uses.
I’ll carry that for you.
I’ll pay for that.
Will you close the door please?
Will you get some toothpaste when you are at the supermarket?
PROMISES TO DO SOMETHING
I’ll bring your laptop back on Tuesday.
I’ll phone you when I get there.
DECISIONS TO DO SOMETHING
(1, 2 & 3 are all spontaneous too. They are
I’m running late.
I’ll catch a taxi to the airport.
I forgot to ring Paul. I’ll do it now.
You can see that we generally use the short
form; I’ll, he’ll, she’ll,
they’ll and so on.
